Two Years...

Happy Anniversary today to me and my hubby!

We've been married two years today.

We've been together much longer though.

For us, it really started in the 6th grade, even though we didn't know it.

Kent's mom was my 6th grade history teacher, and he and his family were new to our little school.  I had been there since kindergarten.  In school, I was a total nerd and goody-goody, so she picked me out for him then.  When she went home and told him she had a future girlfriend for him, he said, "Who?  Lindsay?  She's a nerd and doesn't even know I exist."

He was partially right.  You see I was only 10 years old when I started the 6th grade, so at that point boys were still gross, and I wasn't concerned with the existence of any of them.

Fast forward three years to 9th grade.

I had a geography class with Kent.  We sat beside each other for half the year, just talking occasionally and him borrowing my colored pencils for maps because he always "forgot" his.  After "going out" with one other guy for a few months early that year (still don't understand the "out" part of "going out" at that age because we didn't go anywhere really...), I was kind of over boys again.  Nevertheless, Kent and his crazy personality started getting to me.

We talked every day in class and he always slid my desk closer to his so he could borrow the colored pencils he "forgot."  By Valentine's Day of that year (2001), there was a little crush going on.

He played basketball, and I cheered, so I rode home from every game with him and his family.  We had so much fun.  We were more than just boyfriend and girlfriend... We were best friends.

We stayed together all through high school and went to every dance together except one.

Sorry, these are pictures of pictures... However, you can still notice our baby fat... haha!

When college rolled around, we decided on the same school.  (My mom said I only chose the school because of him, but that wasn't true.  I really liked it there.)  College, however, was not going to treat us well.... at least not both of us.

Our little high school relationship had grown stagnant, and I was feeling unappreciated and taken for granted.  Couple that with the fact that I was getting attention from others, and I wondered if I could keep going in our relationship.  I tried for months, but I finally felt we just needed space.  And that started one of the worst years ever...

Kent didn't do so well with the whole break-up thing, and neither did I.  Not to mention, college just didn't seem to be his thing either.  He had a lot of energy that needed to be directed towards something more than algebra and business classes, so he decided to join the Navy.

Long story short, I missed him before he even left, and after he left we both grew up some and figured out who we were.  Our relationship caught up with us, and we picked up with a more trusting, mature relationship than before.

This was on a visit to see him in 2006 when he was still a fresh "boot"...
I crack up when I see it because we both look like babies!

The day after Christmas in 2008 he proposed.
This was just after he proposed... Yep, it was misting rain outside at the highest point in Georgia where he popped the question, but I didn't care.  I was grinning ear to ear... frizzy, gross hair and all.

I finished school while he was away here, there, and everywhere, and one semester before I graduated with my Master's we got married.

And I'm so glad.

I get to spend every day (well, sort of...) with my best friend, and I don't think it gets much better than that. :)

  2. That is one of the sweetest stories ever!! Happy Anniversary to you and Kent. I just wish he was here to spend the day with you. I know you are in his thoughts because you are always in his heart. I remember when Thom first was getting to know Kent and he would always talk about this guy in his platoon and his childhood sweetheart wife and how all the guys talked about Kent and Louanne. LOLOLOL I never knew your name was Lindsay because everyone talked about darling "Louanne". Anyway, I heard all about ya'all's precious relationship from my husband and other guys. Even those tough guys are touched by ya'all's love. Happy Anniversary girl!
