One Project Down... On to the Next!

This morning I got up and put the final coats of polyurethane on my nightstands. (Click here if you missed how I did this transformation.)

Yay! ..:enter girlie squealing and jumping up and down here:..

I think they turned out quite nicely.  What do you think of the before and after?

I really like the little pop of color it adds to my room.  It brightens things up and makes me smile.  :-)

(The photos don't show the true color of the piece.  It's actually the exact blue of the curtains, not a greenish blue like the picture.)

Now all I have to do is the paintings for above the bed... if the canvases ever get here.  Gotta love Hawaii and the LOOOOOOOOONG shipping times.  According to the little tracker thingy online, they should be here in a day or two.  Let's cross our fingers.

Since my bedroom is now looking so spiffy-- in my opinion anyway, my living room is looking kind of boring.  When I got here to Hawaii, I couldn't find anything to hang that I really liked.  I have a green, blue, and brown thing going on in my living room, and there was simply nothing that would work-- for a price I would actually pay.  At that time, I also wasn't super inspired to paint anything for the space.  I just went to my handy dandy Ross and found a print on canvas.  It matched, but the colors seem a bit dull and muted.  I am thinking I want something a little more vibrant and funky.  It will certainly make  me smile more when I'm here by myself.

Kent left this morning for a few weeks.... boo.  So it's just me and the dogs for a while.  I get a little bummed the first day or so after he leaves, so I figured it would be the perfect time to get creative and paint something for above my couch.  I sketched lots of designs, and finally got inspired by a pillow that I have on my couch.

I'm afraid my pillow has gotten a little faded, though.  It may be time to use it as inspiration and send on on to pillow heaven.  Then I'll make a little trip to Pier 1 and check out the bright, colorful, fun pillows on sale there.

Anyhoo, I decided to paint a three canvas piece.  I started on it today, and it may take a little while.  It will be worth it though if it comes out the way I want.  I'll keep you updated.

P.S.  I'm taking orders for personalized pet portraits.  Let me know if you or someone you know wants one!  Check out my Etsy shop for details.

  1. Oh super cute night stand! I have no idea how to go about re-painting or re-finishing furniture but I have a few pieces that I want try it on! Maybe one day I'll drag them out to the garage and just DO IT! Can't wait to see what you come up with for your living room! Sorry about the hubs being gone :( Hope the time passes quickly and good thinking, get creative in all that extra time you have!

  2. Thanks! I was really nervous to re-finish the night stand in a way this drastic because there was no going back, but like you said, I just DID IT! It's quite a lot of work, but it's totally worth it and almost always comes out better than how it started. :)
Oh, and the hubs is only on a short trip this time, so with all the creativity going on here now, he'll be back before I even know it.
